HPE MSA not accepting password

HPE MSA is not accepting passwords via web portal, CLI, or serial console.

I tested this on MSA 206x. However, I think it should apply to the older or newer models.

Symptoms: When trying to open the MSA Web Portal console, it fails to open for both controllers.

Connects via CLI, but it does not accept the password, and the CLI screen closes.

Serial Cable – The password is not accepted, or access is denied.

The fix is simple to restart the management controllers, but since you cannot connect to the console so the only option is to plan the outage and restart the complete MSA.

There is a hack where you can avoid restarting the full MSA. Follow the steps, and this will reset the password and restart the MCs. There is no downtime or outage required to restart MCs

  •  Connect the USB CLI cable to the controller
  • Install USB CLI drivers
  • Launch Putty serial console session.
  • The login page will list the controller serial number
  • Log in as restoreusers
  • The password would be the controller serial number, similar to 00C0FF1BC850. When you connect to the serial console, it will show the MC serial number.
  • This will reset the user account and restart management controllers.
  • The default login should work after following these steps

If connecting via Putty, it throws an error while connecting via Serial console,

try one of these :-

1.      Make sure the Serial console settings are correct

·        Parameter        Value

·        Connector        COM3

·        Baud rate        115,200

·        Data bits        8

·        Parity        None

·        Stop bits        1

·        Flow control    None

 2.      Install the USB drivers - https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/swd/detail?swItemId=MTX_ae894f585aee4217829954b940#tab-history

3.      If it still does not work, then use Tera Term - https://github.com/TeraTermProject/teraterm/releases
